KUB CASE STUDY:
MINISTRY OF
THE INTERIOR,
FRANCE
Mathieu Maximin, head of the SSI political mission, deputy to the Digital Directorate of the Ministry of the Interior
The Challenge
The top priorities for the ISS mission are to ensure the security of the data of departmental officials and teleservice users: identity cards, grey cards, passports, and the operational security of the Department’s networks.
In 2015, the Ministry suffered an alarming number of security incidents. So it made the decision to limit the open connection for removable media across all workstations, in a bid to gain control of who and what was connecting to the network.
The Ministry implemented an internal script and antivirus solution. However, it was difficult to monitor activity and maintain security. The solution was managed by a single administrator, meaning that security holes would appear if that administrator was unavailable.
The Solution: the KUB Cleaner
In 2018, the Ministry started looking for a sustainable solution, based on a centralised server that allows for regular updates.
The Ministry didn’t have the time to develop a solution internally and testing the Orange solution (LEXI) found that it was too expensive. ANSSI recommended the use of white stations and so the KUB Cleaner was chosen:
The features are exactly what the Ministry needed.
The KUB is a French solution with an excellent feature-price ratio.
It’s fully customisable and allows companies to create awareness-raising cybersecurity content for its users.
It’s so simple to install and easy to manage; alternatives paled in comparison.

At KUB, our number one priority is customer satisfaction. That’s why we’ve made it so simple, fast and effective to keep your devices clean, and your data, employees, suppliers and customers safe from cybersecurity risks.
A KUB kiosk was placed at the entrance of the Ministry to stop threats at the front door. The KUB console effortlessly integrates into the Ministry’s environment and day-to-day activity. It didn’t require any programming or additional software installations – once it was plugged in, it was ready to go.
The touch screen makes it easy and accessible for all users. As soon as a USB is connected to the KUB, it carries out a complete analysis of the entire device, or just a part of it, within a few minutes.
Once the KUB Cleaner has been installed, all updates are carried out automatically, and the KUB dashboard lets the Ministry see and manage its terminal at a glance. Every employee has access to detailed reports of all detected threats per terminal too.
The Results
“The KUB Cleaner is the only solution that meets my needs.”
Change can be complicated, especially in a Ministry. However, the KUB Cleaner has been a phenomenal success:
Security incidents have been reduced by over 60%.
Feedback from users has been incredibly positive.
The tailored content posted on the terminals has seen an increase in cybersecurity policy awareness in the Ministry’s employees.
It helps the Ministry to tick regulatory compliance boxes such as GDPR.
“Do it”
The positive impact of the KUB Cleaner within the Ministry is unparalleled, both in terms of cybersecurity and employee response.
